Bob Richardson of The Clorox Company Earns GMDC Lifetime Achievement Award

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Leading retail industry trade association Global Market Development Center (GMDC) presented its annual Lifetime Achievement Award to Bob Richardson, director of sales and customer and industry development at The Clorox Company, at the association’s annual Health Beauty Wellness Conference (HBW18) which took place September 13-17, 2018 in Orlando, Fla.

The GMDC Lifetime Achievement Award honors visionary leaders who have made significant contributions to the industry’s general merchandise or health beauty wellness categories, to his or her company, and to GMDC.

Richardson is a long-standing member of GMDC and has served in an advisory and leadership role since 2012. He has served as co-char of the Education Leadership Council since 2012, as a board member since 2013, and also previously sat on the HBW Advisory Council.

“This award is a great achievement and a well-deserved acknowledgement of Bob’s contributions to the GMDC community,” said Patrick Spear, GMDC president and CEO. “He is highly respected in the industry and, more importantly, invests his time to support the colleagues and customers he so loyally serves.”

Graduating with an engineering operations degree from North Carolina State University, Richardson began his career with Union Carbide where a company executive quickly identified Richardson’s talent while working at a local plant and advanced him into the company’s sales department. From there, Richardson progressed through roles in the firm’s marketing and sales departments, and also worked with First Brands. Richardson joined The Clorox Company in 1999, where he now serves as the director of sales and customer and industry development. Richardson holds more than 40 years of experience in engineering, management, sales and marketing with all classes of trade.

“Bob became my mentor and my teacher...many people at Clorox have gone through the ‘Bob Richardson school of leadership and customer management,’ and we all feel we’re better off,” said Clorox CEO Benno Dorer.

GMDC’s Lifetime Achievement Award was created in 1994 to acknowledge the achievements of individuals who have made major contributions to mass market retailing with a focus on the general merchandise and health beauty wellness categories. Award recipients represent a cross-section of industry leaders including wholesalers and retailers, suppliers, trade press representatives and association executives.

“We’re here to do commerce together, but we are also family,” said Bob Richardson. “GMDC does both of those best in the industry.”
